Christian Schmidt Brewing Company

The Christian Schmidt Brewing Company was an American brewing company located in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The company was founded by Christian Schmidt in 1860 when he purchased the Courtenay Brewery. By 1980 it was the tenth largest brewer in the United States.〔http://www.beerhistory.com/library/holdings/shakeout.shtml〕 Its most popular beer was Schmidt's of Philadelphia.
After owner William H. Pflaumer went to prison for tax evasion in 1986, Schmidt's brands were sold in 1987 to the G. Heileman Brewing Company of La Crosse, Wisconsin and the brewery closed.〔
